My name is Mikayla Nicole Johns. I grew up in the inner city of Buffalo, New York. For my entire life, I have been involved in ministry with the Buffalo Dream Center. When I was twelve-years-old I went to India for six weeks on my first mission trip. Ever since that trip, God put a very big passion in my heart for missions. My desire has been for people to experience His love and power like I have.
After I finished high school, I completed my TESOL certification and became a missionary in Guatemala. In Guatemala I partner with a ministry called House of Refuge Street Ministries. I have the opportunity to reach out to prostitutes, homeless people, and street children. The ministry in Guatemala has also given me many opportunities to preach in churches to adults, youth, and children. I also get to be a part of a school feeding program and weekly outreach services to people from the streets. As a young woman, I also spend time mentoring girls. House of Refuge Street Ministries also hosts teams from the United States and Canada. As a part of the ministry, I help with the teams as they spend time in Guatemala.
Along with the work of the ministry, I am studying Spanish. I currently teach English three times each week to children for no cost. Recently, I was invited to teach English in a school in a remoter area of Honduras.
Although right now my main focus is on Guatemala, my vision is the world. As God is training me in Guatemala, and getting me ready for greater things, I am excited to see the other places He will take me to teach English, preach the Gospel, cast out demons, heal the sick, and show people the love of Jesus. I feel honored that He has chosen me to do this for His Kingdom.
